Measuring 32" x 1", this belt is comprised of a heavy stepped buckle, 8 square panels featuring peacocks, lions and other animals, 8 rectangular panels of foliate designs, 5 round panels with peacocks, and 12 bar panels with a flower, all over 13 woven strands of silver. The buckle is set with a blue stone, and is fastened with two bars, both attached with three chains. From the Tamil Nadu region, this traditional belt is a coveted example of the rich heritage of silver jewelry and ornamentation of India. In good condition, with some wear to the panels and a few frayed strands of silver and scratches and minor losses to stone in buckle. The belt weighs 15 troy ounces, approximatly 480 grams. The silver has a beautiful lustrous sheen, and the overall effect is dramatic and memorable.
