With extremely intricate enameling and gilding over the entire surface, this Satsuma plate depicts a scene with kimono clad women, a child, all surrounding a figure with a large hat or tray which holds two lanterns, each with the signature that is also on the back of the plate. A cherry tree, lake and landscape are detailed in the background. The plate measures 6" in diameter, and is scalloped around the edge. The decorative band around the central scene contains four cartouches with floral and foliate designs, and a rich array of geometric and floral designs with great detail. The gilt details cover much of the designs and are all intact, with only suggestions of wear. There is a spider on the back of the plate, visible in photos, but does not go through to the front. This little gem is a good example of the highest quality seen in Satsuma wares.
