Measuring 9 1/2" to the top of the finial on the lid, this blue and white faience or delft tankard is mounted with pewter lid and base, and is painted with deep rich blue scenes and foliate elements. On both sides there are scenes of a castle with trees, and the designs cover much of the surface of the tankard. The pewter lid has a medallion with a hunting scene of a boar and dog, with an inscription below the scene "17 G L SF 84", referring to the date and possible ownership. The pewter work is well done, with floral border design, and ribbing around the entire lid. In very good condition, with vibrant color and no damage to the faience tankard. The pewter foot has a break, visible in the photos, but is stable. No maker's marks evident, just a blue line on the base of the tankard. Additional photos available on request.
