The design of this piece is delightful and absolutely mad! It is primarily an Egyptian Revival piece, centering the Goddess Hathor (a goddess of music, dance, foreign lands and fertility who helped women in childbirth [Wikipedia]). She is wearing big earrings, and her usual headdress. She seems to have a flower in her hair, and in front of her there is greenery tied by a ribbon with a bow (laurel? Mistletoe?)...

Here is a pretty brush with repousse decorations depicting Art Nouveau lilies on the top, and fancy swirls on the handle. It measures 5-3/4” x 3". It is stamped Sterling, and there are other, illegible, marks. There is a little bit of damage to the silver at the top of the brush, which is shown in - and is actually exaggerated by – the photos. The handle has a plain area on both sides, ready for your monogram. On one side this area has some dings to it...

Pink coral is said to restore harmony to the heart. Simple, classic, and lovely, this stick pin features an oval of pale pink “angel skin” coral, measuring 9/16” x 3/8”. The whole thing is 2-7/8” long. Unmarked, it tests as 14k gold. The setting has a waving edge, and cut outs to reveal the coral along the sides. It weighs 3.0g. The pin is a little bent, otherwise in excellent condition and circa 1910. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully...

Here is a very pretty starburst pin/necklace, made from 14k gold (marked and tested), seed pearls, and with an old European cut diamond in the center. It has a maker’s mark in the shape of a Maltese cross. Measuring 1-1/8”, it weighs 6g. The bail folds down nicely if it is to be worn as a necklace. The 18” chain is gold filled, and not original to the piece. It comes with an antique dark blue velvet box. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully...

This elegant lady is made from 14k gold – there is a partial mark, so we tested it. Her face is framed by a stylized shell motif, and she has flowers and a diamond in her upswept hair, as well as another diamond nestled in her décolletage. This watch pin or brooch is of hollow construction, and weighs 4.7g. It measures 1” x 1-1/4”. The pin stem assembly is original. Her face is a little worn in the high places, and the back has darkened in a couple places...

This Masonic-themed spoon is marked STERLING F.A. WHELAN. Both sides of the bowl, the hilt, and the tip are gold washed. It has lots of Masonic symbolism incorporated into the design. The dates on the spoon handle (1732-1799) are the birth and death dates for George Washington, who was a Mason. We were told that the spoon is approximately 100 years old. It measures 4-1/8", and weighs 10.9g...

This classy brooch highlights a large amethyst with a row of seed pearls, surrounded by an enameled key pattern. Marked 14k, and signed by the Riker Bros. of Newark, NJ, it measures 1-3/16” x 13/16” and weighs 8.0g. It is in excellent condition, overall, but with a very small ding to the upper left edge, and very tiny pitting in the enamel, which isn’t visible without a loupe. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse. ...

Here is a sweet little pin, measuring 7/8” across. Its leaves are enameled in shades of green, yellow and orange, alternating with leaves set with 3 seed pearls each, and centering another seed pearl. The findings are original, with a neat security clasp. On the clasp is a maker’s mark consisting of an arrow with a circle at the end, probably for Robert Klitz, of New York. No hallmarks, but it tests for 14k gold. Circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefu...

Here is a coral garland necklace consisting of 8 coral drops (Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation), of graduated lengths and sizes, and a final drop on a draping chain. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely deep dark ox-blood red, very hard to capture in photos. The entire chain length is 15-1/4”, and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point. The chain bears the mark for silver jewels imported into Austro-Hu...

This delightful portrait in silver, of a wind-swept person in a cloak and hood, is very detailed and just lovely. We think it’s a boy (unusual!), as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself looks like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. German silver is a white metal. The back is a bit tarnished, has what looks like little bubbles of meta...

This very beautiful ring, with a continuous wheat sheaf pattern (wheat signifies love and charity), most likely comes out of the turn of the last century, according to a jewelry historian. She also said it was probably made using a process called “die rolling.” It is marked “22ct”, “PLATINUM”, and the maker’s mark is “B’s”. Size 5-1/4 plus a little, and it cannot be sized. 5.6 grams. It is in excellent condition, and really just fabulous. The photos are part of the descripti...

Here is a lovely lady with lotuses or water lilies in her hair. Lotuses, a variety of water lily, have symbolized purity, enlightenment, and resurrection. This lady is remarkably similar to a piece made by the Unger Bros., but marked only STERLING – and the stamp is reversed. We believe her to be a copy, but still made around 1900 – this seemed to have happened fairly frequently back in the day. She has the patina of age, a pin stem assembly which is correct for the turn of the last century,...

This classic brooch, in the style of Lucien Gautrait, features a ribbon and flower motif, with a ring of white enamel in the center. The central pearl is probably original, but the pearl on the dangle may be a replacement (as so many are). It is marked with the French eagle for 18k gold and partial owl marks with “73”, indicating a piece that was imported into France post 1893 and assayed in the town of Rouen. There is also what looks like a blurry French maker’s mark, so we find the marks...

This simple yet elegant ring is made from unmarked 18k yellow gold and a purplish-pink topaz. Topaz is thought to be a healing and energizing stone, to bring forgiveness, and promote truth. Sweet! The ring is a size 8, and could be resized. The topaz is set in a modified buttercup setting, with a single leaf curling up to meet the stone on either side, and delicate detail work in the gold. It’s just possible that the stone is a replacement, but if so it was very well done, and the color is ju...
