A gorgeous queen graces the front of this antique locket. She wears a crown with a row of 7 tiny single-cut diamonds, and one slightly larger full-cut diamond at the peak of the crown. Her hair cascades down to her shoulder, and gold disks hang from the crown. She has a little dent at about cheek bone height. The back has a monogram, possibly an S, and has several little dents. The rose gold tests at about 12k. It is 1” in diameter, and weighs 5.3 g...

Emeralds (birthstone for May) have been thought to preserve love, and bring wisdom. These sweet bright green emerald earrings are unmarked, but the gold tests as 14k. They are 13/16” long, and the buttercup settings measure ½” across. The stones measure 5-1/2mm across. I believe the ear wires used to have hooks to slip into, but those are gone and the stubs filed down and smoothed over for comfort. One of the emeralds is chipped in the back, but both stones face up very well...

This gorgeous brooch depicts a red poppy in full bloom, with leaves and buds. It was made by the well-known and very collectible Bippart Griscomb & Osborn of Newark, New Jersey. Their maker’s mark is on the back, as well as a 14k stamp. Measuring 1” x 1-1/4”, it has the long pin stem often found on antique pieces. It has a pearl mounted at the top, and another dangling below. Poppies have symbolized sleep, peace, and resurrection...

This beautiful pin is a crossover between the Art Nouveau and Victorian styles. The Victorians loved to use real insects, particularly these green beetles, in jewelry. The Nouveau jewelers loved naturalistic motifs, but generally didn’t use the insect itself – yet the design of the pin is totally Nouveau. Marked 14k, the pale gold setting contrasts nicely with the deep green of the beetle. The pin stem assembly is original...

This great pin from England features a large peridot (1 cm x 6 mm or 3/8” x 2/8”), and, on either side, pearl-set golden clover heads. Flanking those are 3 demantoids per side, plus 1 above and 1 below the peridot. Peridots are the birthstone for August. They symbolize spring, youthfulness, and are said to bring health and wealth. Off to either side is a whiplash of pearl-set gold. On the back, “15ct” is carved into the gold. The pin stem assembly is original...

This ring is centered by a lovely piece of navette-shaped lapis lazuli (traditionally a stone of royalty, also signifying truth and inner strength), with specks of pyrite for a bit of sparkle. The stone measures 3/4” N to S, and 1/4” E to W. The setting is made of 14k yellow gold, formed into graceful curlicues. It is stamped 14k, and also has a maker’s mark, which appears to be “KBN” and also a dot in a circle. The size is between 5-1/4 and 5-1/2, and it weighs 5.5g...

This lovely (unmarked but tested) 10kt gold jewel is from the early 1800s (around Jane Austen's time), when cannetille work was the vogue: very fine gold wires twisted into thin ropes and then formed into rosettes and whatnot. The amethyst is a lovely delicate shade, and weighs approximately 2.5 carats – it’s very deep. Amethysts are said to bring calm, and help banish headaches. The bale is decorated very prettily. The whole lavalier, including the bale, measures 1-1/2 x 9/16”...

We love this ring, which could have been worn by Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, or by any of the stylish ladies of Downton Abbey! A cabochon of green chalcedony (thought by Native Americans to promote harmony and good will), reminiscent of high quality jade, is surrounded by red and green enamel on the setting. The shank has Celtic interlace decoration (also called entrelac), highlighted with more red and green enamel. It is just slightly smaller than size 6, and the top measures 13/16” x...

Here is a splendid locket depicting some sort of critter: zephyr? Lion? Some other mythological beast? He has a diamond in his mouth, and his eyes are red stones. Measuring 1-1/8”, weighing 9.5g, and marked 10k, he is set up inside for 2 photographs with both celluloid and photo rings. He's a somewhat rosy gold. He also sports the maker’s mark for Kroll. In excellent condition and Circa 1900. Chain not included.) The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks!...

This simple yet elegant ring is made from unmarked 18k yellow gold and a purplish-pink topaz. Topaz is thought to be a healing and energizing stone, to bring forgiveness, and promote truth. Sweet! And the color is just lovely. The ring is a size 8, and could be resized. The topaz is set in a modified buttercup setting, with a single golden leaf curling up to meet the stone on either side, and with delicate detail work in the gold. In excellent condition. This lovely orchid was made from a richly-colored, unmarked but tested, 10kt yellow gold. It has amazing details, an Old European Cut diamond (etw .30 - .35), and a fan pearl. Weighing in at 2.6g, it measures 1” by about 7/8”, is quite dimensional, and SO Art Nouveau! It is unmarked, but we believe it was made in Newark, NJ. It is in excellent condition, except for a very minor problem with one of the petals - it is detached at its central anchor point, but is firmly attached to the pin-stem...

Roses have been symbolic of love and remembrance for centuries, as well as passion, purity, and happiness. This necklace of roses is so elegant! Measuring 17-5/8”, the delicate chain is adorned by 3 roses, each with leaves below. They are spaced by beautifully decorated chain links. The rest of the chain consists of a further 12 fancy links included in the chain. Each fancy link measures 7/16”, and each rose is 3/4” x 5/8”. It weighs 4.2 g. This classy brooch frames a large amethyst with a row of seed pearls, surrounded by an enameled key pattern. Marked 14k, and signed by the Riker Bros. of Newark, NJ, it measures 1-3/16” x 13/16” and weighs 8.0g. It is in excellent condition overall, but with a very small ding to the upper left edge, and very tiny pitting in the enamel, which isn’t visible without a loupe. Here is a beautiful ring, from either the early Victorian or late Georgian period, in rose gold which tests as 18k. The center stone is a ruby cut in an older style, but in excellent condition - possibly a replacement stone. It is surrounded by 8 rose cut and more randomly-cut diamonds that might be foiled, but in any case are in a closed-back setting. Typically for the period, a couple of them are chipped or have fractures. It is unmarked and has a nice patina. The ring is a size 8-1/4, and cou...

This elegant lady is made from 14k gold – there is a partial mark, so we tested it. Her face is framed by a stylized shell motif, and she has flowers and a diamond in her upswept hair, as well as another diamond nestled in her décolletage. This watch pin or brooch is of hollow construction, and weighs 4.7g. It measures 1” x 1-1/4”. The pin stem assembly is original. Her face is a little worn in the high places, and the back has darkened in a couple places. Also on the back there is a scra...

Here is a lovely gold quartz (also called “gold-in-quartz” and “gold-bearing quartz”) brooch from the Victorian era. Gold-in-quartz is rare and becoming more so! It’s our understanding that it is now found in very few places in the world – possibly only one mine in California. The 14k setting has twisted gold on top of a carved gold oval. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-1/8" and weighs 6.8g. The pin assembly has been replaced. In excellent condition. The photos are part of the description, so ...

Here is a coral garland necklace consisting of 8 coral cabs of graduated lengths and sizes, and final drops on a draping chain. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely deep dark ox-blood red, very hard to capture in photos. Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation. The entire chain length is 15-1/4”, and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point. The chain bears the mark for silver jewels imported into Austro-Hungar...
