Here is a very pretty and graceful brooch depicting a sprig of lily of the valley (which symbolizes “a return to happiness,” and is frequently used in wedding bouquets). It is marked 925, and tests for silver. Because of the way the stones are set, we can’t test them, but we’re pretty certain they are carnelians. 11 marcasites add sparkle to the whole. There is an illegible maker’s mark. It measures 1” x 5/8" and is in excellent condition. From the 1950’s or earlier, we believe...

Here is a brooch with an ancient Celtic design – two birds with enameled wings, bodies and eyes, with interlaced silver above and below. The enamel is in green, blue, white, and red. It is marked 925 for sterling silver, and has several other marks which are illegible. 1-1/2” X 1-1/4”. There are a couple places where the enamel isn’t perfect – please see photos. Probably a more recent casting of an older piece, and very pretty...

The coin tests as silver, most likely sterling. On one side we see the face of Friedrich (presumably) and his wife, a Maltese cross, and the words “FRIEDRICH * I * 1701 * WILHELM * II * 1901”, on the other side is an eagle with a crown above, and “DEUTSCHES REICH 1901 ZWEI MARK”. The rest is white metal. The swivel clasp has a mark, which looks like a plow. We haven’t been able to track it down. The coin and split ring weigh approximately .40oz, and the whole thing .94oz...

This lovely navette-shaped pin from the Arts & Crafts era measures 2-1/8 x 7/16”. It has a leaf and berry design, centered by a pretty deep purple amethyst. (Amethysts are thought to bring calmness and clarity to the mind.) It is marked STERLING, and the pin-stem assembly is original. It has a nice patina. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. Please take care in reading this description and looking at the photos, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse...

This necklace is such a pleasure to wear! It drapes very nicely around the neck, measuring 15-1/2” long, with a maximum of ½” in width. It is marked "DANECRAFT STERLING RFG US PAT OFF" and weighs 36.8g or 1.29 oz. In excellent condition, and we believe it was made between 1940 and 1950. The flowers are sometimes mistaken for lotuses, which is no surprise, as they are related. To Buddists, they represent resurrection, purity and enlightenment...

This lovely item is a navette-shaped pin or brooch from the Arts & Crafts era. It measures 2-1/4 x 3/8”. It has a leaf and berries design, centered by a blister pearl of an intriguing shape. It is marked STERLING, and the pin-stem assembly is original. We have not cleaned it, so it has a nice patina and a little bit of tarnish. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse...

This striking Jugendstil or Arts & Crafts pendant is enameled in white and purple. Made from 900 silver (sterling is 925), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which I added, as the original was missing) below an arc of textured metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g...

Here is a cheerful bow brooch, made from blue and turquoise plique a jour with twisted wire work running through it. The colors in the photographs may be deceptive, depending on your computer monitor. The enamel over the wire spirals is turquoise, and the rest is a medium blue. Measuring 1-1/4” x 7/8", it weighs .11 oz or 3.1g. On the back it is marked with “800”, and an illegible (maker’s?) mark; we believe it is Italian. The silver on the front has a gold wash. The plique has some hai...

Here we have a very pretty Charles Horner enameled pendant. It has Horner’s maker’s mark, as well as hallmarks for Chester, 1909-10. The enamel is a lovely mix of green and blue in 3 panels, with a blister pearl mounted at the top and a freshwater pearl dangle. It measures 1-5/8” not including the bale, by 1” at the widest point. The modern sterling chain is 18”. The enamel is in perfect condition, but there is a tiny chip to the blister pearl, which doesn’t even show up in the enla...

This wonderful bracelet is 7” long and 3/8” wide at the widest points, with 5 enameled panels which shade from dark green to pale green to magenta and back again. In between each panel is a round blister pearl. Each connecting link has a hard-to-read mark, probably a lion, also the marks for Birmingham, 1909. The maker’s mark is “S&E” for Schaverien & Eastmead. It has the original safety chain. One enamel panel has a small black spot, and one has a small chip in the enamel, barely visi...

This delightful portrait in silver, of a wind-swept person in a cloak and hood, is very detailed and just lovely. We think it’s a boy (unusual!), as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself looks like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. German silver is a white metal. The back is a bit tarnished, has what looks like little bubbles of meta...

This heavily engraved pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California - it was one of her childhood jewels. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, probably for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina. (For more of Helen’s story, contact us.) Please ...

Here is a sky-blue enamel pendant with blue enamel dropper. It tests as silver, most likely Sterling. It has two shades of light blue enamel on the front, highlighted by silver flourishes and dots. The dropper is also enameled in shaded hues of blue. The enamel continues on the back in sky blue – so lovely! Excluding the bale, it is 1-1/2” long by just under ¾” across. There are two tiny areas of enamel damage on the back, and a few areas that could use some cleaning, but otherwise it is ...

This locket is made of carved silver, with plenty of space for a monogram, should you wish. It measures 1-1/4” (without the decorative bale) by 1” wide. The bale adds a further ¼”. Stamped 925, it weighs .30oz or 8.4g, and has an age-appropriate patina. The 30” box chain is marked 925 and Italy, and weighs a further 9.0g or .31 oz. It has been well loved, and the new owner might want to have it buffed. It closes firmly. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully,...

This intriguing locket has a saint, probably St. Peter, holding a key (to the church? To heaven?), and with a bird – a dove? - in the background) on one side, and a photograph of an ecclesiastical-looking person on the other. It contains a touched relic (a bit of ribbon which has been touched to a saint’s bone or something worn by a saint), a tiny metal medal with Mary on one side, saying "Mary conceived without sin” and more Christian imagery on the other, and a wisp of cotton. Wouldn’t...

This unusual sterling silver and enamel pendant comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by John Ruskin and William Morris, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and (Vote) violet – or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so interesting!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds the oval of mother of pearl in place. Another unusual aspect is the use of brown enamel. Th...

This striking brooch features flowers – poppies? – with curved flowing lines, mounted on a mother-of-pearl oval. Poppies have symbolized sleep (hello, Dorothy!), rest, and eternal life. The flower is silver plate, and is worn on the high places (I find that the worn places actually serve as highlights). The mother of pearl is convex. It measures 1-3/4” x 1-3/8”. The pin assembly is mounted on a base metal plaque, and is of the old style. It rattles a little, but is firmly in place. We be...
