Here is a cheerful bow pin or brooch, made from blue and turquoise plique a jour with twisted wire work running through it. The colors in the photographs may be deceptive, depending on your computer monitor. The enamel over the wire spirals is turquoise, and the rest is a medium blue. Measuring 1-1/4” x 7/8", it weighs .11 oz or 3.1g. On the back it is marked with “800”, and an illegible (maker’s?) mark; we believe it is Italian. The silver on the front has a gold wash...

This striking pin is composed of 2 beautifully engraved silver circles intertwined with an oval, and set with ovals of agate of various colors. Agates have been used in jewelry going back into antiquity. They were thought to ward against storms and headaches, attract strength, and to affect dreaming. Queen Victoria became enamored of Scotland during her reign, so everything Scottish became popular during that period (except, perhaps, haggis!), especially post 1848 when she bought Balmoral Castle...

Here is a really lovely sash buckle, designed for Tiffany by the famous George Shiebler. It is marked “Tiffany & Co,” the winged S for Shiebler, “Sterling,” and “4758.” It is 3” x 2”, with a slight curve to it, and weighs 42.2g/1.49oz. Decorated with flowers and foliate designs, it’s a beauty. (Geo. W. Shiebler & Co. were in business under that name from 1876 until almost 1915.) It came in a Tiffany fabric bag, which may be original to the piece. In excellent condition...

We love this pin! The colors are so pretty, and the leafy design is so very Arts & Crafts. It consists of a leaf and berry motif, highlighted by a central cushion-cut chalcedony cab (thought to bring good luck, with a circular aventurine cab on either side. Measuring 1-3/4” x 3/8", it is unmarked but tests as silver. It is in excellent condition, although the pin is a litte bent. The pin stem assembly may be a replacement, but if so, it’s quite an old repair. Circa 1900...

This sweet, heavily engraved pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California. It was one of her childhood jewels. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, probably for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina...

Here is a lovely ring, which could have graced the finger of a lady on the Titanic, or on the set of Downton Abbey or The Great Gatsby. It is marked “925” for sterling silver, and set with a pretty ruby. It’s a size 6, and with the mellow patina of age. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse. Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.

This striking brooch is just lovely! It has flowers – poppies? – with curved flowing lines, mounted on a mother-of-pearl oval. Poppies have symbolized sleep (hello, Dorothy!), rest, and eternal life. The flower is silver plate, and is worn in places (I find that the worn places actually serve as highlights). The mother of pearl is convex. It measures 1-3/4” x 1-3/8”. The pin assembly is mounted on a base metal plaque, and is of the old style. It rattles a little, but is firmly in place...

Here is a large oval brooch with beautifully monogrammed initials. It is marked “STERLING” and has an illegible maker’s mark. Measuring 3” x 2-1/8”, it weighs 27.1g or .06oz. It is from the Victorian period, and is in excellent condition, but could use a bit of cleaning if you wish. This wonderful bracelet is 7” long and 3/8” wide at the widest points, with 5 enameled panels which shade from dark green to pale green to magenta and back again. In between each panel is a round blister pearl. Each connecting link has a hard-to-read mark, probably a lion, also the marks for Birmingham, 1909. The maker’s mark is “S&E” for Schaverien & Eastmead. It has the original safety chain...

Here is an unusual sterling silver and enamel pendant, which comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by John Ruskin and William Morris, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and (Vote) violet – or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so interesting!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds the oval of mother of pearl in place. Another unusual aspect is the use of bro...

Joan is one of the patron saints of France, and patron of soldiers. This is an intricate design by Edmond-Henri Becker, well-known French medalist. The front of this piece shows Joan of Arc in profile, also a shield decorated with a sword, a crown, and 2 fleurs-de-lis. Above her head is a banner saying “1429” and “Jehanne d’Arc”. The back shows a banner with a saint (or possibly the Madonna and Child – hard to tell) with two people praying. Also shown are a spear, the pommel of a swo...

This striking Jugendstil or Arts & Crafts pendant is enameled in white and purple. Made from 900 silver (slightly less silver than sterling), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which I added, as the original was missing) below an arc of textured metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g. In overall excellent condition, there is an area on the lower left side where the enamel isn’t perfect (not noticea...

Here is a ring made from an Unger cuff link, with a clear maker’s mark. The decoration is a flower, possibly a poppy, and vine tendrils curling down the sides – really pretty. The cuff link portion is 13/16ths” x ½”, and the band ¼” wide. It is a size 6-1/2. In excellent antique condition with an age-appropriate patina. Note that there are camera reflections and other streaky reflections in some of the photos. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we...

This pendant is enameled in two shades of blue, with a pearl dangle. The front is composed of 3 panels of enamel. The outer ones are in the shape of sweet stylized hearts, in dark blue. The center is a lighter color, and the back is a lovely sky blue. Overall it is in very good condition, though the enamel on the back shows a small amount of wear on the high points. It measures 2” from the top of the bail to the bottom of the pearl. Unmarked. C. 1900. Comes with a 19-1/2” silver chain, not o...

This charming brooch is very pretty and wearable. Plique a jour jewels are very hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and I believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin seems to be missing one leaf. The space has been filled with a drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. Along the main vein of each leaf and the stem are paste accent stones, and it is centered by a faux pearl. The plique itself is in good shape,...

Here is a lovely lady with lilies in her hair. Water lilies have symbolized purity, enlightenment, and resurrection. This lady is remarkably similar to a piece made by the Unger Bros., but marked only STERLING – and the stamp is reversed! I believe her to be a copy, but still made around 1900 – this seemed to have happened fairly frequently back in the day. She has the patina of age, a pin stem assembly which is correct for the turn of the last century, and the back of the pin has some scra...
