Here is a sweet and colorful butterfly realized in plique a jour enamel, silver, and paste stones. Measuring 1-5/8” x 7/8”, and weighing in at 5.6 g, it is just lovely! The butterfly wings are in hues of blue, green, and pink, and it has 2 red stones for eyes. It is set with 20 colorless paste stones, 19 of which have darkened over time. The central stone is much brighter, so it may be a replacement. There are some hairline cracks in the plique enamel, as is typical, also some black spots...

Here is a lovely lady with lilies in her hair. Water lilies have symbolized purity, enlightenment, and resurrection. This lady is remarkably similar to a piece made by the Unger Bros., but marked only STERLING – and the stamp is reversed! I believe her to be a copy, but still made around 1900 – this seemed to have happened fairly frequently back in the day...

This silver coin bracelet made it out of Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, when our heroine, Helen Aman, escaped with her family. She was a well-to-do bride, who hid her jewelry in her doctor father-in-law’s medical equipment when they made their escape! (The silver bell pin which we have listed on Trocadero was also hers.) The bracelet consists of 24 coins, dating from 1893 – 1910, but most of them are from 1905...

Here is a very pretty brooch from the Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau era. It features an oval purple cabochon, possibly glass, centered between two hammered leaves (very A&C), all on a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to say “DEPOSE”), it is most likely from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g...

The dangles are set with more labradorite cabs on chains. The wearable length is 24”, and there are 20” worth of labradorite beads, many having the distinctive blue flash for which that stone is known. It is marked "DANECRAFT STERLING RFG US PAT OFF" and weighs 36.8g or 1.29 oz. In excellent condition, and we believe it was made between 1940 - 1950. The flowers are sometimes mistaken for lotuses, which is no surprise – they are related...

Here is a coral garland necklace consisting of 8 coral drops (Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation), of graduated lengths and sizes, and a final drop on a draping chain. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely deep dark ox-blood red, very hard to capture in photos. The entire chain length is 15-1/4”, and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point. The chain bears the mark for silver jewels imported into Austro-Hu...

This is so sparkly and pretty! Jane Austen, or one of her characters such as Lizzie Bennet could have worn this. Made from silver (tested), with a base metal pin stem, and set with paste stones, it is in the form of a graceful lyre surmounted by a crescent moon. Lyres come out of ancient Greece, and were said to represent the underlying harmony of the universe (wow!). Crescent moons have represented the feminine principle and intuitive, psychic energy. It measures 2-3/16” x ¾”, with a very...

This sweet, heavily engraved pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California. It was one of her childhood jewels. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, probably for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina. Please read this description and look at th...

This charming brooch is very pretty and wearable. Plique a jour jewels are very hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and I believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin seems to be missing one leaf. The space has been filled with a drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. Along the main vein of each leaf and the stem are paste accent stones, and it is centered by a faux pearl. The plique itself is in good shape,...

This locket is made of carved silver, with plenty of space for a monogram, should you wish. It measures 1-1/4” (without the decorative bale) by 1” wide. The bale adds a further ¼”. Stamped 925, it weighs .30oz or 8.4g, and has an age-appropriate patina. The 30” box chain is marked 925 and Italy, and weighs a further 9.0g or .31 oz. It has been well loved, and the new owner might want to have it buffed up a bit. It closes firmly. Please read this description and look at the photos very c...
