Here is a very pretty brooch from the Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau era. It features an oval purple cabochon, possibly glass, centered between two hammered leaves (very A&C), all on a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to say “DEPOSE”), it is most likely from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g...

This lovely navette-shaped pin from the Arts & Crafts era measures 2-1/8 x 7/16”. It has a leaf and berry design, centered by a pretty deep purple amethyst. (Amethysts are thought to bring calmness and clarity to the mind.) It is marked STERLING, and the pin-stem assembly is original. It has a nice patina. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. Please take care in reading this description and looking at the photos, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse...

Here is a lovely pendant enameled primarily in an intense blue, with patches of a much lighter color. The dropper shades from a pale green through a lighter blue into the intense blue of the main part of the jewel. The back is marked sterling silver, and the dropper is marked silver. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-3/16, and is on a new 18” sterling chain. In very good condition overall...

Here is a sky-blue enamel pendant with blue enamel dropper. It tests as silver, most likely Sterling. It has two shades of light blue enamel on the front, highlighted by silver flourishes and dots. The dropper is also enameled in shaded hues of blue. The enamel continues on the back in sky blue – so lovely! Excluding the bale, it is 1-1/2” long by just under ¾” across...

Here is a very pretty and graceful brooch depicting a sprig of lily of the valley (which symbolizes “a return to happiness,” and is frequently used in wedding bouquets). It is marked 925, and tests for silver. Because of the way the stones are set, I can’t test them, but I’m pretty certain they are carnelians. 11 marcasites add sparkle to the whole. There is an illegible maker’s mark. It measures 1” x 5/8" and is in excellent condition. From the 1950’s or earlier, I would say...

Here is a ring made from an Unger cuff link, with a clear maker’s mark. The decoration is a flower, possibly a poppy, and vine tendrils curling down the sides – really pretty. The cuff link portion is 13/16ths” x ½”, and the band ¼” wide. It is a size 6-1/2. In excellent antique condition with an age-appropriate patina. Note that there are camera reflections and other streaky reflections in some of the photos...

Here is a pair of earrings which we had made over from a single cuff link, made c. 1920. Recycling/upcycling at its best! My jeweler came up with an ingenious way of creating these earrings – please see the photos. The backing of each (old) peacock glass setting is marked STERLING, and the (new) ear wires are sterling as well. Each cab measures 9/16” x 5/16", and the earrings hang a total of 1-1/2” each...

Here is an unusual and interesting sterling silver and enamel pendant, which comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by John Ruskin and William Morris, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK and the USA: green (Give), white (Women the), and (Vote) violet...

This charming portrait in silver, of a wind-swept person in a cloak and hood, is very detailed and just lovely. I tend to think it’s a boy, as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself almost looks more like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in those Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. German silver is a kind of base metal. The back is a bit tarnished, has what looks like lit...

This lovely item is a navette-shaped pin from the Arts & Crafts era. It measures 2-1/4 x 3/8”. It has a leaf and berries design, centered by a blister pearl of an intriguing shape. It is marked STERLING, and the pin-stem assembly is original. I have not cleaned it, so it has a nice patina and a little bit of tarnish. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. This intriguing jewel has a saint, probably St. Peter, holding a key (to the church? To heaven?), and with a bird – a dove? - in the background) on one side, and a photograph of an ecclesiastical-looking person on the other. It contains a touched relic, a bit of ribbon which has been touched to the bone or something worn by a saint; a tiny base metal medal with Mary on one side, saying "Mary conceived without sin”, more Christian imagery on the other, and a wisp of cotton. Wouldn’t it be g...

This charming brooch is very pretty and wearable. Plique a jour jewels are very hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and I believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin seems to be missing one leaf. The space has been filled with a drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. Along the main vein of each leaf and the stem are paste accent stones, and it is centered by a faux pearl. The plique itself is in good shape,...

This striking pin is composed of 2 beautifully engraved silver circles and an oval intertwined, and set with ovals of agate of various colors. Agates have been used in jewelry going back into antiquity. They were thought to ward against storms and headaches, attract strength, and to affect dreaming. Queen Victoria became enamored of Scotland during her reign, so everything Scottish became popular during that period (except, perhaps, haggis!), especially post 1848 when she bought Balmoral Castle....

This sweet lily pad necklace is a pleasure to wear! It drapes very nicely at base of the neck, measuring 15-1/2” long, with a maximum of ½” in width. It is marked "DANECRAFT STERLING RFG US PAT OFF" and weighs 36.8g or 1.29 oz. In excellent condition, and we believe it was made between 1940 - 1950. The flowers are sometimes mistaken for lotuses, which is no surprise – they are related. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buye...

Here is a sweet and colorful butterfly realized in plique a jour enamel, silver, and paste stones. Measuring 1-5/8” x 7/8”, and weighing in at 5.6 g, it is just lovely! The butterfly wings are in hues of blue, green, and pink, and it has 2 red stones for eyes. It is set with 20 colorless paste stones, 19 of which have darkened over time. The central stone is much brighter, so it may be a replacement. There are some hairline cracks in the plique enamel, as is typical, also some black spots....

Here is a cheerful bow pin or brooch, made from blue and turquoise plique a jour with twisted wire work running through it. The colors in the photographs may be deceptive, depending on your computer monitor. The enamel over the wire spirals is turquoise, and the rest is a medium blue. Measuring 1-1/4” x 7/8", it weighs .11 oz or 3.1g. On the back it is marked with “800”, and an illegible (maker’s?) mark; we believe it is Italian. The silver on the front has a gold wash. The plique has s...

This striking Jugendstil or Arts & Crafts pendant is enameled in white and purple. Made from 900 silver (slightly less silver than sterling), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which I added, as the original was missing) below an arc of textured metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g. In overall excellent condition, there is an area on the lower left side where the enamel isn’t perfect (not noticea...
