This beauty is made from unmarked but tested 18k yellow gold. The flower is enameled in black, and it has a tiny central old-cut diamond. There is a little chipping to the enamel, but it’s still quite lovely. The flower measures 1/2” x ¾” and the whole thing is 2-1/2” long. C 1900. This classic brooch features a ribbon and flower motif, with a ring of white enamel in the center. The central pearl is most probably original, but the pearl on the dangle may be a replacement (as so many are). It is marked with the French eagle for 18k gold and partial owl marks with “73”, indicating a piece that was imported into France post 1893 and assayed in the town of Rouen. There is also what looks like a blurry French maker’s mark, oddly...

These cuff links are really pretty! The Nouveau sensibility is strong – flowing lines highlighting a naturalistic motif of iris blossoms. Irises symbolize hope, valor, and wisdom. The French fleur-de-lis is modeled on an iris. Unmarked, they test as 10k gold. The decorated panels are 1” x ½”, and they weigh 3.9g. Here is a lovely ring, from either the early Victorian or late Georgian period, in rose gold which tests as 18k. The center stone is a ruby cut in an older style, but in excellent condition - possibly a replacement stone. It is surrounded by 8 rose cut and more randomly-cut diamonds that might be foiled, but in any case are in a closed-back setting. Typically for the period, a couple of them are chipped or have fractures. It is unmarked and has a nice patina...

This handsome fellow is either a moose or an elk – we can’t tell the difference! His head measures 5/8 x 11/16". The gold tests at 14k. His red eye is too small to identify, so assume glass. There are marks, but I can’t read them. It weighs 1.4g or 0.05oz. and is in excellent condition. Circa 1900. This sweet and delicate Victorian-era ring is made from unmarked rose gold which tests as a strong 10kt. It features 2 opals, 2 green garnet-and-glass doublets (opal is the birthstone for October; doublets are very common in Victorian jewelry), and 8 tiny seed pearls. It is a bit over a size 5-1/2. The setting measures 1/4” N and S, and ½” E and W. The maker’s mark is a Maltese cross...

Here we have a pretty 9k yellow gold pendant. The design is Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts. It is centered by a dark red garnet, possibly a spessartite. Garnets are the birthstone for January, and were thought to bring travelers safely home. The dangle is set with a blister pearl of a mellow off-white color. There are 3 tiny seed pearls in the main setting...

This beautiful pendant has a very Gothic feel to it. It is centered by an amethyst with good color, which measures 9mm x 7mm, and the whole thing measures 1-7/16” x 11/16”. North, south, east and west there are pearl-set trefoils – thus the Gothic feel – plus a dangle with a further pearl-set trefoil, and a larger pearl dangle. It is unmarked, but tests 10k. It is on a 20” yellow gold-filled chain, marked 1/20-12, but the rest of the mark is cut off. In excellent condition...

Roses have been symbolic of love and remembrance for centuries, as well as passion, purity, and happiness. This necklace is so elegant! Measuring 17-5/8”, the delicate chain is adorned by 3 roses, each with leaves below. They are spaced by beautifully decorated chain links, for better draping. The rest of the chain consists of a further 12 fancy links included in the chain. Each fancy link measures 7/16”, and each rose is ¾” x 5/8”. It weighs .15 oz or 4.2 g...

This unusual and stunning garland necklace has a rigid cross piece. Above is a chain running through loops over 5 oval amethysts with excellent color, each of which is set in an inverted heart-shaped framework, and separated from the next by a tiny pearl. Set below each amethyst is a seed pearl, and below the framework are 7 draping chains, the central 5 each having a freshwater pearl. At each end of the setting is an additional little round amethyst, for a total of 7...

This beautiful pin is a crossover between the Art Nouveau and Victorian styles. The Victorians loved to use real insects, particularly these green beetles, in jewelry. The Nouveau jewelers loved naturalistic motifs, but generally didn’t use the insect itself – yet the design of the pin is totally Nouveau. Marked 14k, the pale gold setting contrasts nicely with the green of the beetle. The pin stem assembly is original...

This lovely orchid was made from a richly-colored, unmarked but tested, 10kt yellow gold. It has amazing details, an Old European Cut diamond (etw .30 - .35), and a fan pearl. Weighing in at .09oz or 2.6g, it measures 1” by about 7/8”, is quite dimensional, and SO Art Nouveau! It is unmarked, but we believe it was made in Newark, NJ. It is in excellent condition, except for a minor problem with one of the petals - it is detached at its central anchor point, but is firmly attached to the pin-...

Here is a small, charming gold-filled Victorian or Edwardian fretwork pin. It measures 15/16” x 7/8”. Somewhat worn in places, but still very pretty. Oddly, the watch hanger tests as 10k. Emeralds (birthstone for May) have been thought to preserve love, and bring wisdom. These sweet bright green emerald earrings are unmarked, but the gold tests as 14k. They are 13/16” long, and the buttercup settings measure ½” across. The stones measure 5-1/2mm across. I believe the ear wires used to have hooks to slip into, but those are gone and the stubs filed down and smoothed over for comfort. One of the emeralds is chipped in the back, but both stones face up very well. The gold shows...

Amethysts are traditionally though to aid in clarity of mind, putting the wearer in touch with their intuitions, and helping to cure headaches – and they are famous for aiding in sobriety! This large amethyst should be a great help, measuring 10mm across. It is set in a framework of leaves that bring to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another leaf on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangles below. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g. I believe it was made during the 1...

This gorgeous lavalier sports a light purple amethyst (reputedly good for clarity of mind), framed by rose gold panels which could be seen as Nouveau or Arts & Crafts. It has a pearl dangle with good luster which is interestingly off-round. Measuring 1-5/8” including the pearl but not the ring, by 7/8”. The amethyst measures 3/8” x ¼”. It is marked “9ct” but tests as 10k. It weighs 2.1g and is in excellent antique condition. The chain is 16” and tests as and is marked 14k on the ...

This beautiful lavalier is made from 10k rose gold, with the two little swirls at the bottom being a subtle greenish gold. In a straight line down from the bale are a seed pearl, an opal with excellent color, and an oval amethyst. There are a further 6 tiny seed pearls. It is marked 10k on the bale, and measures 1” x 7/8" not including the bale. There is a slight color variation of the rose gold in the bottom left quadrant, but it doesn’t have any impact on the beauty of the piece. I've had ...

This extremely cool and highly collectable brooch depicts 5 turbaned “blackamoors.” Made from (unmarked, tested) 14k rose gold, and black and white enamel, the details are picked out in gold (their eyes, mouths, collars and turbans). There is a partial hallmark on the pin, and old repair to the pin stem assembly (invisible from the front), and some damage to the black enamel, especially the two outer figures’ noses and the chin of the rightmost figure. The pin weighs 6.0g or .21oz, and it ...
