Weird but wonderful, and SO Victorian! Here is a grooming chatelaine from sometime in the 1800s – very hard to put a more specific age to this. It has a Chinese fish motif at the top, and dangling from that are 3 implements, a tweezers, an ear-cleaning device, and a third implement for cleaning nails. (We just saw a similar chatelaine on eBay that was advertised as a device for opium users.) It tests positive for silver, but is unmarked and with a patina consistent with age...

Here is a pretty lady’s face in profile. Her long golden hair trails down to end with a tiny baroque or freshwater pearl. Total length of the face, hair and pearl is nearly ¾”. This design was based on a drawing by Charles Dana Gibson – a Gibson Girl! Please see the final photograph. It is hallmarked 14k, weighs 1.2g, and is in excellent condition. It doesn’t have a maker’s mark, but we have seen this exact stick pin with Alling’s mark. Circa 1900...

Here is a fascinating ring consisting of strands of gold tied in a kind of knot, and studded with gold balls. The decorated area measures 5/8 x ½” and the shank measures 3/16”. The ring has a maker’s mark (“J.M”), the anchor for Birmingham, the date mark for 1903-4, “9”, and “375”, however it tests as 10k. It’s approximately size 7, and weighs 5.2g or 0.19oz...

This ring is one of our absolute favorites – and would make a great Valentine’s Day gift! The central diamond is approximately 20 points (1/5 of a carat, but looks bigger), set in platinum. The rest of the setting is made of unmarked but tested 14k gold of a lovely rich yellow. There are 4 tiny rubies and 3 tiny demantoid garnets. It’s very hard to ID the 4th green stone, due the size and setting, but it is mostly likely another demantoid. It’s a size 6, and weighs 2.1g...

Here is a lovely gold-in-quartz (also called gold quartz and gold-bearing quartz) brooch from the Victorian era. Gold-in-quartz is rare and becoming more so! It’s our understanding that it is now found in very few places in the world. The 14k setting has twisted gold on top of a carved gold oval. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-1/8". The pin assembly has been replaced. In excellent condition. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse...

This unusual sterling silver and enamel pendant comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by John Ruskin and William Morris, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and (Vote) violet – or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so interesting!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds the oval of mother of pearl in place. Another unusual aspect is the use of brown enamel...

Here is a sweet Victorian pin with the cross, anchor, and heart, symbols of faith, hope and charity. It has really nice detail work in the metal. Unmarked, but apparently made with a layer of gold on top of a layer of copper. The center of the heart is set with a (faux?) seed pearl, and the cross is set with 11 tiny turquoise-colored cabs – they are too tiny for a definite ID. It measures 1-3/16 x 7/8"...

This costume brooch is really cute. It features prong-set amber-colored rhinestones and colorless glued-in rhinestones in a roundish setting made of gold-toned metal. It makes me think of snowflakes and flowers. Unsigned, in excellent condition and 1” in diameter. This delicate little lady was made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18k rosy gold, unmarked but tested. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures ½” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. It could be worn as a pendant or a very classy charm. In excellent condition, showing a gentle patina, and Circa 1900. Please read this description an...

This striking pin is composed of 2 beautifully engraved silver circles intertwined with an oval, and set with ovals of agate of various colors. Agates have been used in jewelry going back into antiquity. They were thought to ward off storms and headaches, attract strength, and to affect dreaming. Queen Victoria became enamored of Scotland during her reign, so everything Scottish became popular during that period (except, perhaps, haggis!), especially post 1848 when she bought Balmoral Castle. Un...

Perfect for Valentine’s Day! Ruby is the birthstone for July, and symbolizes love, devotion, and immortality. Pearls symbolize purity and harmony. What a great combination for these pretty earrings! They are marked 375 for 9 karat gold, although they test as 10k. The hanging flower basket motif is quite charming! They contain a total of 16 rubies and 18 seed pearls. The total length is 1-7/8”, and together they weight 4.3g. As usual with older earrings, it’s possible that the wires are ...

Here is a pretty pin or brooch, consisting of a “ribbon” of metal tied in a bow, with a green prong-set stone (probably art glass) dangling beneath. The whole thing measures 1-3/4” total length. The bow is 1” wide, and the dangle is ½” wide. Because of the way it’s constructed, the dangle can be removed, and either replaced with something else, or just left as is. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse. Thanks...

This striking Jugendstil or Arts & Crafts pendant is enameled in white and purple. Made from 900 silver (sterling is 925), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which I added, as the original was missing) below an arc of textured metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g. In overall excellent condition, there is an area on the lower left side where the enamel isn’t perfect (not noticeable without magnifi...

Pink coral is said to restore harmony to the heart. Simple, classic, and lovely, this stick pin features an oval of pale pink “angel skin” coral, measuring 9/16” x 3/8”. The whole thing is 2-7/8” long. Unmarked, it tests as 14k gold. The setting has a waving edge, and cut outs to reveal the coral along the sides. It weighs 3.0g or .11oz. The pin is a little bent, otherwise in excellent condition and circa 1910. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we...
