The design of this piece is delightful and quite wild! It is primarily an Egyptian Revival piece, centering the Goddess Hathor (a goddess of music, dance, and fertility). She is wearing big earrings, and her usual headdress. She seems to have a flower in her hair, and in front of her there is greenery tied by a ribbon with a bow (we can’t tell if it’s laurel or mistletoe). The ink pots (no glass inserts) have winged hearts on them, and are surmounted by crescent moons – symbols from many c...

Here is a Victorian pin with the cross, anchor, and heart, the symbols for faith, hope and charity. It has really nice detail work in the metal. Unmarked, but it seems to be made of a layer of gold on top of a layer of copper (we’re sure about the gold). The center of the heart is set with a (faux?) seed pearl, and the cross is set with 11 tiny turquoise-colored cabs – they are too tiny for a definite ID. It measures 1-3/16 x 7/8". The gold shows wear here and there, and it has a nice age pa...

This terrific brush by Gorham Manufacturing Company is meant to look like the top of an old chest, with a strapping and stud motif – very Steampunk. The top is monogrammed with a fancy "R". It has the Gorham marks, as well as “1857 C”, “Sterling,” and the scissors mark for 1907. It measures 6” x 1 -3/4" across the top, and is in very good condition. Photo note: the color of the bristles is more of an ivory than they appear to be. The photos are part of the description; please examin...

This lovely and detailed Titanic-era garland necklace features a heart with wings, symbolic of love and openness. The heart has green enamel with orange highlights, and it and the wings are set with seed pearls. Above are gold curlicues, and below is a (tested) diamond dropper. It’s got a faint 10k mark on the back, but tests as 14k. The spring ring is marked Gold Filled, but the chain tests for 14k, so the spring ring is most likely a replacement. The central design elements measure 1-1/2” ...

This pretty pin has a lotus or water lily motif highlighted with a tiny pearl. (The lotus is a symbol of purity and enlightenment, especially to Buddhists.) It is unmarked but tests as 10kt gold. It measures 1-1/8”, and weighs in at 0.04 oz. It would look lovely on a lapel or blouse. Circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! This pretty ring comes out of the era when Edwardian styles were sliding into Art Deco. It is marked “925” for sterling silver, and set with a pretty ruby, birthstone for July. Rubies have been called “the queen of stones and the stone of kings.” The ring has the mellow patina of age, and is size 6. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.

Here is a really lovely sash buckle, designed for Tiffany by the famous George Shiebler. It is marked “Tiffany & Co,” the winged S for Shiebler, “Sterling,” and “4758.” It is 3” x 2”, with a slight curve to it, and weighs 42.2g/1.49oz. Decorated with a floral motif, it’s a beauty. Geo. W. Shiebler & Co. were in business under that name from 1876 until almost 1915. It came in a Tiffany fabric bag, which may be original to the piece. In excellent condition. The photos are part o...

This delightful portrait in silver, of a wind-swept person in a cloak and hood, is very detailed and just lovely. We think it’s a boy (unusual!), as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself looks like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. German silver is a white metal. The back is a bit tarnished, has what looks like little bubbles of meta...

These 10kt yellow gold cuff links sport an ivy motif – one of our favorites! Ivy is symbolic of growth, marriage, and friendship. The decorated ends measure 3/4” x 1/2”, and they weigh 3.2g. Unmarked, they test at 10k, and we believe them to be from the Art Nouveau period. In excellent condition, and really lovely. The photos are part of the description so please examine them carefully. This intriguing locket has a saint, probably St. Peter, holding a key (to the church? To heaven?), and with a bird – a dove? - in the background) on one side. On the other is a photograph of an ecclesiastical-looking person. It contains a touched relic (a bit of ribbon which has been touched to a saint’s bone or something worn by a saint), a tiny metal medal with Mary on one side, saying "Mary conceived without sin” and more Christian imagery on the other, and a wisp of cotton. Wouldn’t ...

This great pin from England features a large peridot (1 cm x 6 mm or 3/8” x 2/8”), and, on either side, pearl-set golden clover. Flanking those are 3 demantoids per side, plus 1 above and 1 below the peridot. Peridots are the birthstone for August. They symbolize spring, youthfulness, and are said to bring health and wealth. Off to either side is a whiplash of pearl-set gold. On the back, “15ct” is engraved into the gold. The brooch weighs 5.1 g and measures 1-9/16” x 5/8”. Three of ...

Gentlemen: this terrific lion is just waiting to take his place on your tie or lapel! Made from unmarked but tested 14kt yellow gold, with tiny red stones for eyes, and a (cultured?) pearl in his jaws, he measures 7/16” x 1/2”. The findings are either a low-carat gold or gold filled. The lion himself weighs 1.5g, and the total weight is 4.1g. He probably began life as a stickpin, circa 1900, and is in excellent condition. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefull...

This unusual sterling silver and enamel pendant comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by John Ruskin and William Morris, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and (Vote) violet – or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so unusual!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds an oval of mother-of-pearl in place. Also unusual is the use of brown enamel. There is a little...

It is made from 900 silver (sterling is 925), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which we added, as the original was missing) below an arc of textured metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g. In overall excellent condition, there is an area on the lower left side where the enamel isn’t perfect (not noticeable without ...

Here is a lovely gold quartz (also called “gold-in-quartz” and “gold-bearing quartz”) brooch from the Victorian era. Gold-in-quartz is rare and becoming more so! It’s our understanding that it is now found in very few places in the world – possibly only one mine in California. The 14k setting has twisted gold on top of a carved gold oval. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-1/8" and weighs 6.8g. The pin assembly has been replaced. In excellent condition. The photos are part of the description, so ...

Joan is one of the patron saints of France, and patron saint of soldiers. This is an intricate design by Edmond-Henri Becker, well-known French medalist. The front of this piece shows Joan of Arc in profile, also a shield decorated with a sword, a crown, and 2 fleurs-de-lis. Above her head is a banner saying “1429” and “Jehanne d’Arc”. The back shows a banner with a saint (or possibly the Madonna and Child – the metal is a bit worn here) with two people praying. Also shown are a spea...
