This lovely (unmarked but tested) 10kt gold jewel is from the early 1800s (around Jane Austen's time), when cannetille work was the vogue: very fine gold wires twisted into thin ropes and then formed into rosettes and whatnot. The amethyst is a lovely delicate shade, and weighs approximately 2.5 carats – it’s very deep. Amethysts are said to bring calm, help banish headaches, and protect against drunkenness. The bale is decorated very prettily...

Amethysts are traditionally though to aid in clarity of mind, putting the wearer in touch with their intuitions, and helping to cure headaches – and they are famous for aiding in sobriety! This large amethyst should be a great help, measuring 10mm across. It is set in a framework of leaves that bring to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangles below. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g...

Here is a nice micromosaic brooch, possibly from Italy – in the 1800s the Italians were making these pieces for the tourist trade. This one is made of red, blue, and white tesserae, and none of them are missing, which is unusual. The setting is brass, we believe, and the whole thing is 2-5/8” x 7/16". It is signed “FAP” on the back. It’s a bit dirty, and there seems to be a break in the twisted metal decoration around the edge, but it’s barely visible without magnification...

This beautiful 14k (tested) rose gold pin has a floral and crescent moon motif (a crescent moon is the symbol for the female principal, intuition and new beginnings), accented by 10 rose cut diamonds in closed-back settings. The diamonds are erratically cut, which is typical of the era, and they sparkle nicely. It has 2 makers marks: an oak leaf in an oval, and the letters “JR” and possibly another that is illegible; no hallmarks. It measures 1-1/2 x ¾”...

Here is a fantastic brooch, which if it isn’t by Juliana, is in that style. The colorless rhinestones in various sizes are all prong set. The pin measures 2” x 2” and weighs 20.0 g. In excellent condition, and probably pre-1970. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.

This striking jewel tests as at least 14k. It is set with what I believe is an iolite, and 4 pear-shaped purple garnets, all foiled, all set within an Etruscan Revival motif of coiling decorated gold ropes and leaves. It is graced with two gold dangling chains. The brooch measures 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/4" deep and weighs 8.7g/.31oz. With the chains, the whole piece measure 2-1/2” long. The pin stem assembly appears to be all original...

According to some, this is St. Catherine, patroness of young maidens and female scholars. There is a (“Catherine”) wheel in the background, and a flower in the foreground. Her clothing looks very Renaissance to me. Marked “SILVER” on the C-clasp, with an illegible maker’s mark, the metal tests 90-100% silver, and she’s a dainty 7/8” in diameter. 2.5g. In excellent condition, and circa 1850...

Highly unusual cuff links! Each has a photograph of an elegant lady in a white high-necked blouse with upswept hair. These were clearly worn a lot, based on the patina, but they still look great. The 10k marks are on the back of the fronts only, not on the “torpedo” ends. I don’t want to test the torpedoes, as it might make an obvious mark; they could be gold filled. The fronts measure 7/8” x 5/8”, the torpedoes ½” x 3/8”...

Here is an intriguing cigarette case with niello enamel. It has a flower motif on both sides, and a blank space for a monogram on one side. It is marked (and tests as) sterling silver. The piece measures 3-7/8 x 2-15/16”, and weighs in at 4.92 ounces. In excellent condition, though since the elastic is in such good condition, it may be a replacement. We believe this case is pre-1920, but would welcome other opinions. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we ...

Here is a rare Art Nouveau/Victorian cross-over piece. The Victorians loved to use real insects, particularly these green beetles, in jewelry. The Nouveau jewelers loved naturalistic motifs, but generally didn’t use the insect itself – yet the design of the pin is totally Nouveau. Marked 14k, the pale gold setting contrasts nicely with the green of the beetle. The pin stem assembly is original. The clasp has a nice safety lever; it is bent a bit but still works perfectly. It measures 1-5/16 ...

This silver coin bracelet made it out of Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, when our heroine, Helen Aman, escaped with her family. She was a well-to-do bride, who hid her jewelry in her doctor father-in-law’s medical equipment when they made their escape! (The silver bell pin which we have listed on Trocadero was also hers.) The bracelet consists of 24 coins, dating from 1893 – 1910, but most of them are from 1905. The wearable length is 7-1/8”, and it weighs .93 oz, or 26.3 ...

I am in love with this necklace! I hate to sell it, but a girl’s got to earn a living, right? It combines an Art Nouveau central panel set with a freshwater pearl and a sapphire-blue paste stone with an Etruscan-like fringe. Unmarked, it really looks like gold, however it tests as rolled gold or gold fill (I haven’t tested the fringe for fear of damaging it). The central panel measures 1-1/4” x 1-1/4” including the dangles. In total, there are 11 graduated dangles, the longest being ¾...

This wonderful bracelet is 7” long and 3/8” wide at the widest points, with 5 enameled panels which shade from dark green to pale green to magenta and back again. In between each panel is a round blister pearl. Each connecting link has a hard-to-read mark, probably a lion, also the marks for Birmingham, 1909. The maker’s mark is “S&E” for Schaverien & Eastmead. It has the original safety chain. One enamel panel has a small black spot, and one has a small chip in the enamel, barely visi...

Here is a lovely pair of white gold-fronted double cuff links. Each end is marked WHITE GOLD FRONT BELAIS 14K; TALON GRIP TRADEMARK, and is octagonal, measuring 5/8 x 7/16”, with rigid connectors, hinged at one end. Belais Brothers were amongst the first to develop a formula for white gold (their patent was for 1917). Many think they were the premier workers in white gold, and their jewels are highly collectible. These show some wear to the gold, with a bit of red metal (copper?) showing throu...

This is so sparkly and pretty! Jane Austen, or one of her characters such as Lizzie Bennet could have worn this. Made from silver (tested), with a base metal pin stem, and set with paste stones, it is in the form of a graceful lyre surmounted by a crescent moon. Lyres come out of ancient Greece, and were said to represent the underlying harmony of the universe (wow!). Crescent moons have represented the feminine principle and intuitive, psychic energy. It measures 2-3/16” x ¾”, with a very...

A gorgeous queen graces the front of this antique locket. She wears a crown with a row of 7 tiny single-cut diamonds, and one slightly larger full-cut diamond at the peak of the crown. Her hair cascades down to her shoulder, and gold disks hang from the crown. Just lovely! She has a little dent at about cheek bone height. The back is monogrammed with the usual illegible letter – possibly an “S” – and has several little dents. The rose gold tests at about 12k. It is 1” in diameter, and ...
