| This inkwell is delightful and absolutely mad! It is primarily an Egyptian Revival piece, centering the Goddess Hathor (a goddess of music, dance, foreign lands and fertility who helped women in childbirth [Wikipedia]). She is wearing big earrings, and her usual headdress. She seems to have a flower in her hair, and in front of her there is a sprig of mistletoe and some other greenery tied by a ribbon with a bow. The pots (which are missing the glass inserts) have winged hearts on them, and are surmounted by crescent moons – symbols from many cultures. It measures 8-1/2 x 7 x 4-1/2” tall. I’ve just polished it up a bit. There is a small hole in the metal to Hathor’s right – I took a photo with blue paper behind it to make it visible, but the photo magnifies it quite a lot; it is only 1/8” wide, and it took me a long time to notice it. Otherwise in very good condition, and probably circa 1900. By the famous WMF of Germany. NOTE that we will only accept a check for this item. Please take care in reading this description and looking at the photos, as I am not responsible for buyer remorse. Thanks! Shipping, handling, and insurance are free within the USA. | ||
