Iolite & Diamond Ring – Victorian Revival

Iolite is a fascinating stone. It was thought that it leads to inner knowledge and protects the wearer from disease. It was used in acrostic jewelry in the 18th c. to help spell out “faith.” It has strong pleochroism, which means that the stone’s color is different, depending on the angle from which you view it. As you can see in the photos, from some angles it shows up as blue, from others, as purple. From a 3rd angle it would show up as a sort of yellow, but because of the setting this color isn’t visible. This lovely ring seems to be a very nicely done Victorian reproduction. The elaborate gothic prongs set off the large iolite (approx. 2 ct.), and there are 4 small single cut accent diamonds. The setting measures 7/8” north to south, and ¾” east to west. Size 8-1/2 approximately. It is marked 14k, the setting is red gold and the shank is yellow gold. The stones are in excellent condition, and of a modern cut. Please read this description and look at the photos very carefully, as we are not responsible for buyer remorse. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.
