| The design of this brooch is extremely similar to that of one made by Wm. Kerr & Co at the turn of the last century. It is unsigned, stamped, and silver plate, which is why I don’t believe it is an actual Kerr piece, but I could be wrong. According to Dorothy Rainwater, many of the Kerr designs were actually “derived almost unaltered” [stolen!] from Europe anyway. However, Rainwater also says Kerr enclosed the hollow backs of their pieces, which was not done here. Whoever made it, it’s a charming piece, measuring 2-1/2 x 2”, and having a safety-pin like pin assembly. The plating is worn a bit on the high places, but it’s not noticeable. In overall very good condition. Circa early 1900s. | ||
