Japanese limited edition lithograph with gold leaf by Shuji Wako (b. 1953) titled “Woodblock Puzzle II” dated circa 1983. The image features a puzzle resting upon a luxurious textile decorated with Genji mon, all set against a black velvet background. The print is pencil-signed “S. Wako” and numbered 14/30 in the lower margin. The lower right edge holds the title and original purchase price of 5,000 yen. The paper measures about 16 ½”V x 13 7/8”H (image: 13 ½”V x 11 1/8”H). The print is in excellent condition. Due to the reflection of the camera flash, the gold leaf highlights in the puzzle and textile appear washed out, but they are actually a very rich gold color. See enlargement 2 for a view of the image without the reflection of the flash. There are two small pieces of archival tape at the top margin verso. This print was purchased new in Japan in 1983 and is from a Scottsdale, Arizona collection.
