| Right panel from a Russo-Japanese War triptych titled “News from the Russo-Japanese War: The Russian Railway Carriage Falling to the Bottom of the Frozen Lake” by Utagawa Kokunimasa (1874-1944) dated March 1904. Based upon an actual historic event, a train loaded with reserve Russian soldiers headed to the war front crashed through the ice on Lake Baikal. The complete triptych is in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. It is also illustrated on page 122 of “The Arts of Meiji Japan 1868-1912: Changing Aesthetics” by Barry Till, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, 1995. 13 7/8"V x 9 1/4"H. Very good color with minor soiling and a few foxing spots. The image is album backed. This print is from a New Orleans collection. | |||||||||||
