Chinese Qing dynasty Guangxu period famille rose porcelain ginger jar decorated with a pair of brightly colored phoenix birds standing beside a leafy tree among blooming peonies and foliage set against a turquoise ground. This classic pattern was custom-made in China for the Straits Chinese (baba-nonya) settlements of Malaysia and Singapore. 8 ½” high. Circa 1900. A “China” mark was painted on the base for export. Very good overall condition. There is a small glaze loss/chip at the mouth which is possibly a burst bubble from the original production (see enlargement 10). This jar is from an old Scottsdale, Arizona collection.
