Chinese Qing dynasty Guangxu period ginger jar decorated in underglaze blue with five horizontal rows of narrow vertical stylized shou (long life) characters on a slightly off-white porcelain ground. A band of upright plantain leaves encircles the base and a narrow decorative band extends around the unglazed neck. The glazed base holds an underglaze blue double circle at the center. The interior is glazed but the foot rim is unglazed. Circa 1900. Measures about 5 7/8” height and diameter. Very good overall condition with a few tiny frits to the mouth rim. This jar is from the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
