| Northern Thai celadon stoneware Lanna jar with small mouth and rounded belly from the Mengrai Kilns of Chiangmai, Thailand. This vessel is decorated around the circumference with an incised scrolling foliage motif. Measures about 4 3/8"H x 7 1/4" diamater. Excellent condition. The Mengrai Kilns were named after King Mengrai the Great, founder of Chiangmai, capital of the Lanna Kingdom about 700 years ago. The Mengrai Kilns were established in 1973 to preserve the Chiangmai pottery tradition. Each piece is produced according to strict quality standards using the ancient methods. The signature of the craftsman, the Mengrai Kilns logo, the royal initial of the King of Thailand, and the date of production are typically found on the base. This vessel was purchased in Chiangmai directly from the kiln around 1981-82. We acquired it from a private Hong Kong collection. Please note that the square white spot is glare from the camera. | |||||||
