Large Japanese Kutani porcelain bowl decorated in gilt and overglaze polychrome enamels. A square cartouche in the center of the bowl features two birds perched on flowering tree limbs. A band interspersed with flowers and geometric forms extends around the circumference of the interior and exterior rim. The exterior is decorated with lacquer cups and sprigs of budding foliage. The base is signed in red "Kutani made." Believed to date from the early Showa Period (circa 1926 - 1935). Measures 9 1/4" diameter x 3"H. Very good overall condition. Please note that the fine white heart-shaped outline in the center of the bowl is from the camera flash.
