Japanese Bronze Shokudai Candle Stands Candlesticks
Pair of 30" high Japanese Meiji period bronze candle stands ("shokudai"), each with a hexagonal shaft supported by a 12" diameter circular base with a chrysanthemum accent at the center. Late 19th century. Very good overall condition with a nice patina. They are slightly wobbly and one of the candle stands is missing the hook designed to hold the tweezers used for pinching the candle wick (see enlargement 4). Acquired from the Arizona estate of a World War II veteran who purchased the pair in Japan in 1954.
