Japanese Meiji Aka-e Kutani Porcelain Bowl - 8.5" Dia.
Japanese Meiji period "aka-e" (red) Kutani deep bowl finely decorated on the interior with a dense geometric and floral pattern in overglaze rust-red and gilt highlights. A square cartouche at the center holds a gilt "ho-o" (phoenix) bird in flight. The exterior is decorated around the circumference with festive lanterns. The base holds a red three-character mark reading in Japanese "Kutani made." Dates from the late 19th century. 8 1/2" diameter x 2 5/8" high. Very good overall condition.
