Japanese Arita porcelain nagazara rectangular tray decorated in sometsuke (underglaze blue enamel). The interior center features a shochikubai pattern, or “three friends” motif of pine, prunus and bamboo. The exterior is decorated with a sometsuke karakusa (scrolling foliage) design. The four edges have a cut corner finish. Similar examples of the pattern on the interior cavetto can be found on page 516 (plate 4070) and on 521 (plates 4111 and 4112) of the “Complete Catalogue of the Shibata Collection” from The Kyushu Ceramic Museum. All are dated 1820-1860. Measures 7 7/8" Long x 4 5/8" Wide x 1 5/8" High. Very good overall condition with no chips or cracks.
