Chinese late 19th century two door elmwood wardrobe cabinet with carved lower apron in a natural finish. A separate two door hat cabinet fits on top of the chest. Our ceiling height is not adequate to accommodate the hat cabinet in its proper position, so a photograph of the hat cabinet is available as enlargements 7 and 8. The interior of the chest features two drawers and two interior shelves. The hat cabinet has one interior shelf. A round brass lock plate is at the center of the doors and round brass hardware is on the door hinges. The doors and central bars lift out for easy transit. This cabinet measures 68”H + hat cabinet 30”H = 98”H x 50”W x 21”D. The chest is sturdy and is in very good overall condition. There are some characteristic cracks in the wood from shrinkage. These are visible primarily in the hat cabinet at the back and one door. There is a very small square light wood patch or restored area in one side (see enlargement 6). This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s. Please contact us for out-of-state shipping quotes.
