Height 27 mm (1.06 inch), diameter 230 mm (9.06 inch), diameter of footring 122 mm (4.80 inch) German/Dutch botanist Maria Sybille Merian (1647-1717), described the insects of the West Indies, Surinam in particular. For the central decoration on this specific dish, no matching print of her has been found.
