Southeast China Swatow fish decorated Jar
Jar, Provenance: (Southeast) China, Swatow. Dating: The end of the 16th century / first half 17th century. Jar on a flat, unglazed, base decorated in underglaze blue. On the waist decorated with two medallions containing a fish leaping out the sea separated by a concentric waves pattern. The shoulder is decorated with a band of lotus leaves and on the lip rim a double circle. On the base a label with the number 298, probably the objects number in the collecting of the previous owner. Dimensions: Height: 47 mm (1.85 inch), Diameter: 61 mm (2.40 inch), Diameter of footring: 38 mm (1.50 inch), Diameter of mouth: 20 mm (0.79 inch). Condition: Two tiny glaze frits with a tiny, glued back, glaze piece round the rim, a bit of glaze wearing to the body and overall fine crazing to the glaze.
