Teapot. Provenance: Japan. Dating: Edo middle period (1704-1800) early 18th century c.1700-1720. A globular teapot with a glazed base on a wide unglazed footring, round curved spout, looped side handle. Lid fluted with a small round knob. Greyish paste and greenish glaze. Typical Imari decorated in underglaze blue, iron-red and gold. Decorated with trailing floral sprays covering the whole body and lid. The handle and spout painted with red scrolling. Dimensions:
Height: 95 mm (3.74 inch), Diameter ear to spout: 165 mm (6.50 inch), Diameter of footring: 53 mm (2.09 inch). Condition: A "X"-shaped glaze hairline to the inside of the rim of the lid, at the end of the spout some crazing to the glaze a firing fault to the inside of the belly.
