Saucer. Provenance: Japan. Dating: Begin 18th century, c. 1700. A beautiful and curious saucer on a footring with a glazed base and an everted lip. Imari decorated in underglaze blue with overglaze iron-red, gold, and black and green overglaze enamel colours. In the centre a decoration of a single flower in a circle. On the cavetto flowering peony and bamboo trees growing from rockwork. Round the interior rim a "silk-worm" pattern band. The exterior rim and wall are undecorated. Dimensions: Height: 26 mm (1.02 inch), Diameter: 125 mm (4.92 inch), Diameter of footring: 68 mm (2.68 inch). Condition: A firing flaw to the base and to the inner footring.
