Soup Spoon. Provenance: China. Dating: Kangxi period (1662-1722), 1690. A Blanc de Chine soup spoon according to a traditional Chinese model with a pointed oval deep part, narrowing into the curved handle. The end has a moulded design of three dots on small stems. The base is unglazed. The soup spoon has the original Christie's "Vung Tau Cargo" sale label showing it has been part of lot 466, one of 46 Blanc de Chine soup spoons. According to Jörg in his book, Porcelain from the Vung Tau wreck, The Hallstrom Excavation, spoons are notoriously difficult to date, so we are lucky to have these documented pieces.
