Japanese Export Porcelain, Imari Teapot, Edo Period.
Teapot. Provenance: Japan. Dating: Edo middle period (1704-1800), c.1710-1730. Small oviform teapot on footring, Curved handle, slightly bent spout. Domed cover with round knob. Imari decorated in underglaze blue, iron-red and gold. Florally decorated with flowering chrysanthemum and various other plants. On the handle and spout a floret between scrolls. Dimensions: Height (with cover): 95 mm (3.74 inch), Diameter ear to spout: 140 mm (5.51 inch), Diameter of mouthrim: 39 mm (1,54 inch), Diameter of footring: 50 mm (1,97 inch). Condition: A 2 mm (0.08 inch) glaze fleabite to the tip of the spout and a greyish glaze round the mouthrim, the handle and spout. due to the firing process. Reference; C.J.A.
