Gouache on card. A very rare and original grand tour painting depicting the early 19th century eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. The painting is comprized of 9 independent views of the eruption, including tourists surveying the blue grotto. Each view is separated by a faux painted boarder. Scottish School, watercolour on ivory, portrait miniature of a child with a dog, attributed to William Douglas (1780-1832). The rectangular, half-length, portrait depicts a child wearing a violet-coloured dress with gold shoulder straps, playing with a dog. Stone background with sunset landscape in the distance. Gilt-metal frame with velvet reverse. 10 cms. X 8 cms. (4 inches X 3 1/4 inches). Excellent condition and a lovely subject.
