French School, c. 1790. Water color on ivory portrait of a gentleman. The circular head-and-shoulders portrait depicts a young gentleman with powdered hair and blue eyes, wearing a vivid blue coat with black collar and silver button, with a frilled shirt and stock. Under his left arm he carries his tricorn hat. Gilt metal slip in walnut frame. 7 cms. diameter (2 3/4 inches). Very good condition.

Scottish School, watercolour on ivory, portrait miniature of a child with a dog, attributed to William Douglas (1780-1832). The rectangular, half-length, portrait depicts a child wearing a violet-coloured dress with gold shoulder straps, playing with a dog. Stone background with sunset landscape in the distance. Gilt-metal frame with velvet reverse. 10 cms. X 8 cms. (4 inches X 3 1/4 inches). Excellent condition and a lovely subject. William Douglas was born in Fife on the 14 April 1780...

Blue background. Signed in pencil to reverse, "F Boyd Walters RMS". Very pretty embossed brass frame. Rectangular, 10 cms. X 3 1/4 cms. (4 1/4 inches X 3 1/4 inches).

A portrait of a beautiful little girl with fair hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue, smocked dress with blue headband and holding a stuffed animal. Signed in pencil to reverse, “F Boyd Walters RMS”. Oval, 7 ½ cms. diameter (2 ¾ inches). With rectangular frame, 12 cms. X 10 cms. (5 inches X 4 inches). The Canadian miniaturist, Frederick Boyd Walters was a member of the Royal Miniature Society, London.

He worked in England and Dublin, probably before 1790. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1790-1835. Polack died the 30 August, 1839...
