French, late 18th Century. Wood, toroiseshell, and ivory portrait miniature box. The circular box is painted with pink, blue and white stripes and zig-zags outside. The lining is tortoiseshell. The lid is inset with an ivory miniature of a young woman dressed in blue. This box is very unusual and is n lovely condition. Box, 6 cms. diameter (2 1/4 inches). Oval miniature, 3 cms. diameter (1 1/4 inches).

French School, c. 1790. Water color on ivory portrait of a gentleman. The circular head-and-shoulders portrait depicts a young gentleman with powdered hair and blue eyes, wearing a vivid blue coat with black collar and silver button, with a frilled shirt and stock. Under his left arm he carries his tricorn hat. Gilt metal slip in walnut frame. 7 cms. diameter (2 3/4 inches). Very good condition.

American primitive school. Oil on canvas. An amazing historic document in the form of a portrait of an African-American share-cropper. The 19th Century portrait, which is in very good condition, was quite incredibly found in a barn in Maine. The portrait depicts a woman, standing by a cabin, in a vividly painted landscape, reminescent of Western North Carolina, with crops, a cabin, mountains, and a sunset beyond. Simple, modern cherry frame. 63 cms. X 53 cms. (25 inches X 21 inches)...

Frederick Cruickshank (attributed, 1800 - 1868). Watercolour on ivory. Portrait of Amy Laura Alexander. The girl, with fair curls, wears a pink dress with pink ribbons at the shoulder and lace edging to the neckline. Oval, 5 cms. X 3.5 cms. (1 3/8 inches X 1 1/2 inches). Inscription on backing paper reads: “Amy Laura d. of Robert Alexander & Vera Charlotta d. of William Dashwood Fane.”) Note: Items No. 767 and 768 and brother and sister.

Continental School. Early 19th Century watercolor on ivory portrait of an officer. The officer, depicted in 1/2 pose, is depicted wear a blue coatee with red facings, silver epaulettes and aiguillete, white shoulder belt with silver belt plate, chemise and black stock. Beneath his right arm he carries a silver helmet decorated with a black feather. Gilt brass frame. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 1/2 cms. (3 1/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches). Excellent condition.

Portrait of Egan Gibson, Esq., of the 4th Dragoons The head-and-shoulder portrait depicts Mr. Gibson in profile, wearing a blue coat with fur collar. Ebonized papier mache fame. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 cms. (3 inches X 2 3/8 inches). The 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards were a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1685...

English School, the artist initialling “ABE”, c. 1817. A pair of portrait silhouettes, depicting husband and wife. The man, initialled and dated to the reverse, “ABE/1817”. Original ebonized frames with fancy embossed brass surrounds. Oval, each, 8.5 cms. X 7c.s (3 1/2 inches X 3 1/4 inches). Condition is good.

English School, c. 1810. Watercolour on ivory. Portrait of a young woman, her face framed with dark, upswept hair parted in the centre, and curls to each side. She is wearing a pale blue gown with gold chair and pearls around her neck. Ebonized papier mache frame with brass inset. Oval, 7.5 cms. X 6 cms. (2 3/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches).

English School, c. 1700 Oil on copper. Portrait of a young woman with dark hair dressed in a pink gown. The number “95” engraved to the reverse of the copper. Later frame, Oval, 7 cms. X 6 cms. (2 3/4 inches X 2 1/4 inches).

English School, c. 1770 Tortoiseshell, brass, ivory, and polychrome and lacquered papier mache. Circular box, lined in tortoiseshell, the exterior papier mache painted in an alternating stripe pattern, the entire embellished with brass and the lid inset with a portrait miniature of a woman with powdered hair wearing a blue gown with white fichu. Circular miniature 6.5 cms. diameter (2 1/2 inches). Box 4 cms. high (1 5/8 inches).
