| English School, c. 1770 Tortoiseshell, brass, ivory, and polychrome and lacquered papier mache. Circular box, lined in tortoiseshell, the exterior papier mache painted in an alternating stripe pattern, the entire embellished with brass and the lid inset with a portrait miniature of a woman with powdered hair wearing a blue gown with white fichu. Circular miniature 6.5 cms. diameter (2 1/2 inches). Box 4 cms. high (1 5/8 inches). | ||||||
