Henry Edridge (1769-1821) Portrait of a Gentleman
Henry Edridge (British 1769 - 1821). Watercolour on ivory. Portrait of a gentleman wearing a brown, double-breasted coat, cream waistcoat, white frilled chemise, stock, and cravat, his hair powdered and tied with a black bow. Oval, 5 cms. X 4 cms. (2 inches X 1 1/2 inches). Henry Edridge was born in London August, 1769. He attended the Royal Academy Schools, London, where he was praised by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Edridge began exhibiting at the Royal Academy as a miniaturist in 1786. In 1820 he was elected ARA. His sketchbooks are in the British Museum, London. Edridge died in London April, 1821.
