Portrait of A Brother & Sister by William Egley

A pair of watercolour on ivory portrait miniatures, probably of a brother and sister, by William Egley. The young boy, with hazel eyes and dark curly hair, in cream breehes, white shirt with wide frill collar, and a short black coat with black buttons. His right hand rests on his hip, and the other hand on a rock, with a landscape background. The young girl, with hazel eyes and fair upswept, in a peach, off-the-shoulder dress, carrying a jewelled casket, with pillar and sky background. Both initialled and dated to the obverse "WE 1828", and inscribed to the reverse, "William Egley/Miniature Painter/47 Cirencester Place/Fitzeroy Square/1828". Gilt metal frame with gilt metal slip. Rectangular, 10 1/2 cms. X 9 cms. (4 1/2 inches X 4 inches). Very Good condition. William Egley was born in Doncaster in 1798. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1824 - 1869 and acquired an aristocratic clientele.
