| An extremely fine, Edwardian portrait miniature by the Australian artist, Ada Whiting, c.1906. This lovely, totally original watercolour portrait by the Australian miniaturist, Ada Whiting depicts a very pretty young woman in a head-and-shoulders, full-face pose. She is shown with large blue eyes, auburn, upswept curls gathered at the side with a pink flower, and draped in an off-the-shoulder white gown. Initialled and dated to the obverse, “AW/’06”, and inscribed to the reverse, "Painted by/Ada Whiting/230 Collins St/Melbourne/1906". The portrait is mounted with blue cloth, set in a brass frame with embossed border and laurel wreath to the crest. Oval, 13 cms. X 9 ½ cms. (5 inches X 3 inches). Mrs. Ada Whiting flourished, c. 1900. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, London in the early 20th Century from the Cromwell Buildings in Melbourne, Australia. The Art Museum in Sidney has portraits by her. | ||||||||||
