Victorian Sterling Silver Lorgnette - Circa 1890
This is a beautiful sterling silver Victorian lorgnette. It is intact, complete with glass lenses - so much more elegant than the reading glasses we find today. Closed the lorgnette is 4" long and there is a bale on the end so that it could be worn on a chain or watch pin. There is a lever on one side which releases the glasses - very clever. It all works well - to put the glasses back, bend them at the nose piece and return to the case and the lever goes back into place to wait for the next time, you need to open them. The case is in good condition with a few minor dings as one might expect in something this old, but that is the only thing I can see wrong. The lorgnette is marked Sterling inside the case - very hard to see, but it is there. Just a beautiful example of Victorian elegance.
