The statue can be identified as Amitayus by the vase of eternal life he is holding in his two hands. He is the Bodhisattva of eternal life, longevity, or the Buddha of the infinite. He is invoked for long life, health and happiness. This is quite a large statue, measuring twelve inches in height and eight in width. Fully gilded, it was made in Nepal some thirty years ago and is an example of the fine work still coming out of the workshops of Patan in the Kathmandu valley. |
