Iron Bird Lamp from Nepal
This was an everyday household item in the hills and mountains of Nepal before the advent of Coleman lanterns and flashlights. The body of the bird held a reservoir of oil for burning and the wick came out of the bird's head. The bird's head always unscrews so that the reservoir can be easily filled and the twisted cloth that serves as a wick can be occasionally replaced.

The wick is about 15 inches high. The base of the bird can be unscrewed from the stand, which would then make it 9-1/2" high.

This lamp can still be put to use outdoors, and with a very clean burning candle oil can be used indoors without asphyxiating your guests.
