| Here we have a dancing Krishna, a graceful form of the young Balakrishna, holding a butterball in his right hand. Krishna is the eighth incarnation of the god Vishnu and played a central role in the India epic Mahabharata. This murti dates from the late 18th century, and originates from South India, most likely from the state of Tamil Nadu. Krishna has a lovely dark brown patina, with ritual wear on his head and chest, as well as some signs of verdigris. The statue is 5.8 cm high and 3.7 cm wide. | ||
