Late 18th century Indian bronze sculpture from Maharashtra depicting Khandoba (a form of Shiva worshipped in Western India) mounted on a horse with his wife Mhalsa (the corresponding form of Parvati) behind him, and a dog by the leg of the horse. Both Khandoba and Mhalsa hold bowls in their left hands, and Khandoba has a short sword in his right hand and a club behind his back. It is very good quality casting with a beautiful reddish-brown patina and faces beautifully worn from 200 years of worship. Height 6.9 cm, width 4.7 cm. |
