A very attractive pair of 18th century bronzes of Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi, cast in Karnataka. Vishnu is shown holding his chakra and battle axe, and Lakshmi is holding her lotus flower. The two bronzes were most likely cast and worshipped together as they have the same coppery patina and same degree of devotional wear, as well as similar amounts of fine detail. Height 10.3 cm (Vishnu) and 9.3 cm (Lakshmi), width 4.4 cm (Vishnu) and 3.7 cm (Laskshmi). |
