Burliuk was born in Russia, traveled and studied in Western Europe and eventually moved to America where he died. He was a poet, art critic, organizer of exhibitions and was a leader in the Russian advant-garde movement.
His style, which is varied, includes symbolism, neo primitivism and expressionism. He paints scenes of peasant life with bright colors and heavy application of paint which creates images that are full of energy.
His art is in the collection of many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Yale University, etc. He is listed in WWW as well as many other art reference books.
