VICTOR JOSEPH GATTO: AMERICAN (1893-1965) WORKING THE FARM; Oil on Canvasboard Signed lower right: VJG, with no artistic background or training, started painting at age 45-48. In 1943, he had his first exhibit in NYC and gained instant recognition in the NY art scene as a folk art, naive/primitive painter, His works were exhibited in many major museums, (MOMA,WHITNEY ETC,) and he is listed in numerous art reference books. He painted with vibrant colors, and complex details. Dimensions; 16" x 19.5"; framed, 22" x 24".
