Frederic J. Waugh was born in Bordentown NJ in 1861 and died in Provincetown MA in 1940. He is known as an illustrator, marine, landscape and genre painter. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Thomas Eakins and at the Academie Julian in Paris with Boulanger and T. Robert Fleury (1888-1889). He was a member of numerous Art Associations including the Royal Academy, Bristol England, the National Academy of Design and the American Academy of Arts. He is listed in Davenport’s Art Reference, The Artist’s Bluebook and WWW in American Art. His paintings The Roaring Forties and Wild Weather are in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is also in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum..
