| A beautiful Mettlach stein, #2210, circa mid 1800's. Marked on the bottom with the Abbey mark and impressed 2210. The abbey mark is a representation of an 11th century abbey which still stands today in the village of Mettlach. This trademark, among other marks, was pressed by hand into the bottom of the piece. The mark consists of the abbey above a banner, or placard, which includes the word "METTLACH" and the joined letters V and B (for Villeroy and Boch). There is a paper label also attached to the bottom which ID's the stein to circa 1852-1872. The stein is 11 3/4" high. Excellent condition. The stein is referred to as the bowling scene. Capacity is 3.2L. The stein is in Gary Kirsner, The Mettlach Book, copyright 2005, pg. 104. | ||
