Victoria of Taxco silver-on-copper sugar/creamer set
Nice silver-on-copper creamer and sugar set with all-copper tray from Ana Maria Nuñez de Brilanti. Brilanti (aka “Victoria”), a master of mixed metals (metales casados), was active in Taxco from 1940 to 1978. This set probably dates to 1948 — 1958, since it is not marked for Cony. ••• The creamer and sugar bowl are both marked Victoria Taxco Mexico, Copper 482. The tray has the same marks, with a 241 inventory number. ••• The creamer has a rosewood handle that’s 2½” long. Both the creamer and sugar bowl are 4” high with a diameter of 10”. The tray measures 7 7/8” long x 4¾” wide. The set weighs a total of 468 grams (the tray alone is 200 grams). CONDITION: All three pieces are in very good estate condition. Other than tarnish, the tray is in excellent condition, with no noticeable bends or dents. The lid on the sugar bowl closes snugly, while the creamer lid rests slightly above the lip (see opening photo). There is a hairline crack to the wood on the bottom of the creamer handle, but the wood is sound and otherwise in excellent condition. Both pieces have noticeable bends on the bottom rims. It may be possible to have a coppersmith restore these minor imperfections to the metal.
