Jimmy Calabaza Turquoise & Silver Beads Necklace
"CA'Win" signed necklace for Jimmy Calabaza, Santo Domingo Pueblo's award winning lapidarist and jeweler. His work can be found in several museums including the Smithsonian. He won 1st place this year at the IACA for his work. This artist who has been producing since the 70's makes his own beads and cuts and polishes his own stones, unlike so many artist's who leave those jobs to others. This is a heavy and substantial necklace weighing 191 grams or over 6.5 oz. The stone is a mesmerizing shade of true robin's egg with excellent spider webbing. Study the photographs, notice an animal head with an eye emerge from the brown matrix at the lower half of the stone! Reminiscent of a horse head. Necklace which is strung on foxtail or silver braided cable measures 25" end to end. Pendant is permanently installed on this bead necklace and it measures 2 1/4" tall x 2" wide.
