| After the famous painting "Madonna of the Chair" by 15th Century Italian master Raphael this antique shell cameo was hand-carved by an Italian artist. This 19th century work of art depicts Mary, her halo subtly visible, the baby Jesus in her arms and Saint John. The brooch closely portrays the original artwork as the pictures show. This holy subject matter is both rare and favored by collectors. Finely detailed with textural variety and multi-dimensional high relief carving and undercutting, this example is also quite large. Measuring 2 1/2" x 2 1/8" overall it is apparently unsigned. The gold mounting has small loss (gold beads and few non-gold solders to reverse). Otherwise very good to excellent with no cracks or chips to face of shell. Happy to provide more details as required, just email inquiries.
