Very Rare Spectacular Makah Indian Pattern Basket
An amazing old Nootka or Makah basket weavers pattern basket. Finely woven from split cedar bark and dyed bears grasses in green, red, purple, yellow and blues to create this amazingly complex basket. The basket features 30 different creatures ranging from sea serpents, eagles, deer, dogs, ducks, geese, canoes, beaver, sturgeon, whales, etc. The basket stands 3 3/4" tall and approximately 5 diameter across the top. These baskets were used by the basket maker to apply designs onto other woven baskets, by counting the stitches and color patterns it made creating the designs easier. On this basket you can this maker had the full repertoire. Visually and technically stunning.
