Fine Early Inuit Eskimo Figural Group Arctic Bay
A fine old Inuit Eskimo sculptural group carving dating from the 1960's. Carved from a striking deep green naturally viened stone in four parts, a base, two hunters, and a seal. This unique sculpture is drawn from the Inuits ability to draw from their own life events and execute them into stone with amazing realism and profound feeling. Two hunters stand clutching their spears in one hand looking down upon their catch of the day. There expressions are one of pity for the creature they've taken out of necessity of life. The carving is unsigned and unmarked, common for early inuit material. Dimensions base 6 1/4" by 5 1/2" and the hunters stands approx 5 1/3" tall. Condition is excellent with no damages or repairs noted.
